第一番の主題であるメロディーはそのタイトル通り、ものものしく荘厳で力強い。この『威風堂々』を全世界に知らしめたのもこの部分であり、クラシック音楽などを特に聞かない人々の耳にも強く残る。私も、これはホルスト『惑星』の天王星、ドヴォルザーク『新世界より』の最終楽章、ムソルグスキー『展覧会の絵』など、大編成系で好きな曲をあげろと言われたら間違いなく持ち出すかであろう曲のひとつである。
