Furano city Furano contains a survey mark that denotes the geographic center of Hokkaido. It is famous for its lavender, wine and as a site for World Cup Skiing. It is also known for the television drama Kitano kunikara, From the Northern Country, written and scripted by Soh Kuramoto. Kuramoto is also the organizer behind a theatrical group known as the Furano Juku. Garbage in Furano is collected according to six different categories to aid recycling.
